Abstract: The letter proposes a simplified transfer function for the thermal FM response of a semiconductor laser diode, derived from an approximate thermal model of the laser chip. Based on this, the dip in the overall FM response is analyzed theoretically. Experimental data on the FM response of DFB laser diodes are in excellent agreement with the proposed theory
