Abstract: A mathematical model of a solar timber kiln is developed by writing the energy balance equations at its different nodes. Empirical relations relating the drying time and percentage moisture content as a function of the temperature and relative humidity inside the timber kiln are employed to determine the time required to reduce the moisture content in the timber to a desired final level. The differential equations are solved by employing a finite difference technique. The model is simulated for the summer and winter conditions of Delhi.
