Abstract: Some complexes of p-acetamidobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (thiacetazone) with cobalt(II), nickel(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II) and mercury(II) have been prepared and their magnetic, spectral and thermal data suggest that the thiacetazone acts as a neutral bidentate ligand binding the metal ion through the hydrazine nirogen and the carbothioamide sulphur. A brown-coloured nickel(II) complex, Ni(TA)2, was isolated and found to be diamagnetic and it contains a monoanionic bidentate ligand (thiol form). All the metal complexes of the type M(TAH)2X2 (where X is Cl, Br, NO3 and SCN) are octahedral, while Ni(TA)2 is square planar in structure.
