| Abstract: | The design of reinforced embankments on soft soils is usually governed by their rotational stability. For wide-crested embankments, the authors recently developed simple solutions which can be used to determine the critical slip circle and the maximum required reinforcement force. However, when the failure arc intersects the side slope, as in the case of narrow-crested embankments, and also for the determination of the maximum required reinforcement force at different points on the reinforcement, a trial-and-error approach is necessary. Solutions developed for this type of problem are presented in this paper. The results obtained by the present solutions and the other solutions are compared for four cases of embankments. |
