dc.description.abstractA method for the evaluation of the pressure induced deflection of a pad on an elastic foundation is proposed. A semi-analytical approach based on the well known Bubnov and Galerkin method is applied assuming the pad to be a thin plate. The hydrodynamic pressure on the pad is calculated by solving Reynolds equation numerically. The methodology adopted is checked for rigid simply suppotied edge conditions by comparing with available results.Results are presented with particular reference to a springsupported pad.en
