dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a novel proximity index for voltage stability analysis. The proposed index is based on the angle between real and reactive power gradient vectors of load buses. A simple and computationally efficient algorithm is proposed for the evaluation of this index. The proposed index is used for the real time voltage stability enhancement algorithm which uses a very simple and highly efficient procedure similar to the one used in classical economic load dispatch. Generator bus voltage settings, capacitive shunts and line transformer taps have been incorporated as controls. In order to validate the proposed index and its application for voltage stability enhancement, results are obtained for 6-bus and IEEE 30-bus test systems. Compar-ison of results with those obtained with continuation power flow demonstrates the utility of the proposed method.en
