dc.description.abstractAn annular finned pyrolyser is designed for clean and pollution-free combustion of coarse type biomass materials. Experiments are performed with pyrolysers of two different sizes with 8 and 12 radial fins, respectively. The temperatures of the inner wall, fin and bed are measured for different conditions. Model equations are formulated for the heat transfer and pyrolysis processes for predicting the temperatures and conversions in the pyrolyser. It is found that the agreement between the experimental values and theoretical values is satisfactory. Model equations are also employed for obtaining temperature and conversion profiles in the pyrolyser for assessing the performance of the pyrolyser with respect to number of fins and heating rates.en
