Abstract: Acrylonitrile/acrylic acid copolymers were prepared by photo polymerization using the uranyl ion as a photo sensitizer. The copolymer composition was determined from the percent nitrogen in the copolymers. The comonomer reactivity ratios, determined by Kelen Tudos (KT) and non-linear error in variable (EVM) methods, are rA=0.98 and rB=3.79. The triad sequence distribution in terms of A and B centered triads have been obtained from 13C{1H} NMR spectra of the copolymers. 2D proton detected 1H-13C heteronuclear shift correlation spectroscopy was used to assign the aliphatic protons in the 1H NMR spectrum. 2D double quantum correlation (DQFCOSY) and total correlated (TOCSY) spectroscopy was used to assign the complex 1H NMR spectrum to different compositional sequences. The Monte Carlo simulation (MC) was used to study the effect of degree of polymerization on the triad fractions.
