Abstract: Transient non-Darcy free convection adjacent to vertical or horizontal permeable flat surfaces embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium is investigated by using Forchheimer extended Darcy law. The viscosity of the fluid is assumed to have an inverse linear dependence on temperature. It is shown that a larger flow inertia delays the onset of steady state and decreases the heat transfer rate from the wall. Heat transfer rate is also shown to decrease with increase in fluid viscosity and surface mass flux across the plate.
